Workplace Deaths Surge in Bangladesh as 422 Workers Lose Lives in 2025

Workers faced deadly dangers at their jobs during early 2025. A safety group tracked 422 worker deaths from 373 accidents across Bangladesh. The Safety and Rights Society gathered this information from newspapers around the country. These numbers show workplace dangers remain a serious problem. Deaths dropped slightly from the same time last year when 475 workers died.

Transportation jobs proved most dangerous for workers. Road accidents killed 267 people during these six months. The transportation sector recorded 207 total deaths from all causes. Service jobs came second with 65 deaths. Construction and farm work each caused 59 worker deaths.

Lightning strikes killed 56 workers during storms. Electric shocks caused 40 deaths at work sites. Falls from high places killed 23 workers. Fire and explosions took 12 lives. Heavy objects falling on workers caused nine deaths.

The safety group found many causes for these accidents. Poor building design creates dangers for workers. Broken machines and bad training lead to injuries. Companies fail to give workers proper safety gear. Bosses ignore safety rules to save money. Workers face long hours without enough rest.

Sekender Ali Mina leads the Safety and Rights Society. He says new technology should make work safer. Reform groups have suggested better safety rules. Real change requires cooperation from workers and companies. The government must also enforce stronger workplace protections to save lives.
