Xolani Khumalo sworn in as ActionSA councillor in Ekurhuleni

Former television presenter and anti-drug activist Xolani Khumalo will be sworn in as a councillor for the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. The ceremony, scheduled for 10:00 AM at the civic center, represents a strategic move by ActionSA, which has named Khumalo as its mayoral candidate for the metro.

ActionSA leadership, including President Herman Mashaba, will host a media briefing following the swearing-in. The party intends for Khumalo’s new role to provide him with direct experience of the council’s internal operations and challenges. This appointment fills one of two council vacancies created after the party dismissed previous councillors for inadequate performance.

Khumalo’s transition into formal politics is seen as part of a broader effort to introduce new leadership into a municipality grappling with service delivery issues. His background in community activism on substance abuse aligns with the party’s stated focus on accountability and governance reform for the region's residents.
