Yeongcheon cosmetics factory blast leaves one missing, three employees injured

A chemical plant manufacturing cosmetic materials exploded Sunday afternoon in Yeongcheon, located 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Emergency responders received the alert at 12:42 p.m. regarding the blast at the industrial complex. Thirteen workers were present during the incident. Three sustained injuries, while one remains unaccounted for. Search teams continue operations for the missing employee.

Firefighters battled intense flames and hazardous fumes that prevented initial entry into the facility. Helicopters joined the response efforts to combat the blaze from above. Crews extinguished the primary fire by 6:13 p.m. The plant manufactured hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals for beauty products. Authorities mobilized additional resources to contain the emergency.

The explosion shattered windows at a convenience store 300 meters from the site. Nearby apartment residents reported feeling tremors from the blast.
