Yoshida hints FFXIV port to Switch is cooking

The Final Fantasy XIV director just heavily hinted at a Switch port. During a New Year event on Japanese servers, producer and director Naoki Yoshida responded to a fan question about bringing the MMORPG to Nintendo platforms with a teasing "Please look forward to it." While not a full confirmation, this follows his earlier comments at Gamescom 2025, where he discussed positive discussions with Nintendo about the benefits for both veteran players and newcomers.

Yoshida previously envisioned a potential Switch 2 version allowing players to tackle combat on PC while relaxing on a couch for crafting or gathering tasks. He also highlighted the value of introducing a younger audience to the MMO genre through the portable system. His latest tease did not specify between the original Switch or its successor, though the game's technical demands make a Switch 2 release more likely.

This rumor emerges as the game continues to expand on other platforms, with the recent 7.4 patch adding new story content, a raid tier, and a revamped glamour system. Chinese players already have a mobile version developed by Tencent, but a global release for that port remains unannounced. Yoshida's latest comments suggest a Nintendo port is actively being explored as a real possibility for the future.
