Yunus government backtracks on August 5 deadline for July Charter

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed that national elections will proceed according to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus's established timeline. The official emphasized that no delays would occur beyond the predetermined schedule. Alam made these statements while addressing journalists at the TEDx Comilla University event held at Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development. The government promises to deliver the finest electoral process in Bangladesh's history. Equal opportunities will be guaranteed for all candidates to prevent any claims of unfair treatment.

Political parties continue discussions with the National Consensus Commission regarding proportional representation systems. Eight matters have achieved consensus while seven remain under consideration and three await formal deliberation. The administration maintains that rapid progress exceeds typical international standards for such negotiations. Law enforcement agencies have demonstrated consistent success in apprehending criminals following incidents. Government officials rejected any proposals to separate the Gopalganj district from the national framework.

The July Charter may receive official announcement on August 5 pending final political consensus. Youth participation during the July Revolution accomplished unprecedented democratic achievements through peaceful demonstrations.
