Zanu PF Heavyweights Joyride Without Plates

Two top government officials drove cars around Zimbabwe without registration plates for almost two years. David Masomere works as President Mnangagwa's Master of Ceremonies and drives a Toyota Hilux without plates. Minister Ezra Chadzamira also drives his vehicle without proper registration. Police roadblocks and tollgates let them pass without stopping them. Both men received expensive vehicles as gifts from businessman Wicknell Chivhayo.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba says no vehicle can legally drive on roads without plates. He worries that criminals use cars without registration for robberies across the country. Police Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirms that officers are investigating the matter. The Central Vehicle Registry fixed old delays and produces plates quickly through university partnerships. Senior lawyers confirm that only mayoral vehicles on civic duty can drive without plates.

Masomere became close to the president during the 2023 elections because they share the same family totem. The president gave him land and a tractor before Chivhayo donated the expensive truck. Analyst Ruben Mbofana criticizes leaders for setting bad examples for young people. He says the country operates like a criminal organization with thugs making rules.
