Some renegade ex-Zanu-PF officials are trying to overthrow Zimbabwe's legally elected government. But a top official says their plans will fail big time.
Zanu-PF Mashonaland East Provincial Chairman Daniel Garwe gave a speech at a rally on Wednesday. He was drumming up support for Zanu-PF Glen View South Constituency candidate Tsitsi Tranquillity Tawomhera in Harare. Garwe said efforts by some former Zanu-PF officials to go against the constitution and undermine or remove the elected government would crash and burn.
He made it clear that the ruling party and government fully support President Mnangagwa. "President Mnangagwa won the election in 2023. He's in his second term now. But some people are already scheming, saying they can't wait for his term to end. They're calling for protests to remove him. What do they mean they 'can't wait?'
There's no office without a leader. Cde Mnangagwa is our President, whether they like it or not," Garwe said firmly.
He pointed out that President Mnangagwa cares about the people. You can see it in the life-changing development programs he's launched, including the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) and the Presidential Borehole Scheme.
"The development programs President Mnangagwa is leading give us an advantage. They show our leader is practical and dedicated to the people. Road repairs are happening under ERRP. The borehole scheme is moving forward across the country," Garwe explained.
He also took a jab at Blessed Geza, a fugitive former Zanu-PF member. "A stray dog always has an owner. You want to know its master? Beat the dog, and the owner will show up. You want to find a puppy's mother? Grab the puppy, and the mother will bark and charge at you.
Right now, we're dealing with Geza. Even if he calls for protests, don't be fooled," Garwe warned.
Garwe thanked citizens for ignoring Geza's calls for protests and challenged Geza to come out of hiding and face him directly. "I'll make Geza wear an apology jersey for his rebellious talk. Let me warn you, Geza—don't rebel against Zanu-PF again. Comrades, tell Geza the time for rebels is over.
Geza, stay in South Africa with Saviour Kasukuwere if you want. Our President is Emmerson Mnangagwa," he declared.
