Sports can supposedly bring everyone together, according to a president. Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi opened the AFED Sports Festival Zanzibar 2025 at the Maisara Sports Complex in the Urban West Region. He stated that sport is a powerful force for uniting communities and nations. This marks the first time the Khoja Shia Ithnashir community has held its global games in Zanzibar, with about 300 international athletes participating. Mwinyi said the event promotes unity, solidarity, and talent development.
He argued international tournaments boost economies through trade, jobs, and investment. Mwinyi also praised an associated investors' seminar organized by the Africa Sports Federation. Hassan Mohamed Raza, Secretary of the local host group, Islam Jammat of Zanzibar, credited upgraded stadiums and modern infrastructure for securing the event. The president encouraged athletes to uphold friendship and urged visitors to see local cultural sites.
