ZIFA bets on Marinica to fix Warriors’ failures

Zimbabwe's football governing body has selected Marian Marinica, a Romanian tactician with extensive international credentials, to lead the national squad under a 12-month contract tied to performance metrics. The 69-year-old arrives with a UEFA Pro Licence and will assume command immediately as the Warriors prepare for scheduled exhibition matches.

Association president Nqobile Magwizi praised the hiring decision and highlighted the coach's track record across multiple continents. Marinica previously guided Malawi to its strongest showing at the 2022 continental championship and helped Liberia climb substantially in world rankings during 2024. His resume features advisory positions with major European sides such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. The new manager advocates for aggressive, quick-transition tactics he describes as operating at fast and very fast speeds.

Officials noted Marinica outlined plans during interviews to strengthen domestic coaching capacity while recruiting talent from the diaspora. He takes charge of a program still recovering from World Cup qualifying disappointments and faces pressure to restore competitive spirit. Training sessions will begin shortly as supporters await signs of tactical evolution under his direction.
