ZiG Cash Flood Hitting ATMs Across Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe central bank officials reassured people who worried about finding local money. Reserve Bank Governor John Mushayavanhu said banks carry enough cash for daily needs. The country sees more people using ZiG currency than before. Citizens can find notes at most banking locations. Officials work hard to spread money outside the capital city.

Currency usage climbed from 26 percent to 43 percent during the past year. Zimbabweans spent 56.8 billion ZiG through electronic payments last month. Banks stored 207 million ZiG cash as of June 12. The central bank calls this amount sufficient for public demand. Total ZiG deposits hit 16 billion according to official numbers.

Several banks loaded ZiG cash into their ATM systems already. Other financial institutions update machines to distribute local money. The central bank assists companies with spreading notes to remote areas. Harare residents and rural citizens should find better access soon. Banking leaders promise to protect the currency buying power.
