Zillur Rahman named Center for Governance Studies president as board changes

The Center for Governance Studies shook things up when they picked fresh faces to lead their organization. Zillur Rahman landed the top job as President during a weekend board meeting. Parvez Karim Abbasi scored the Executive Director position at the same gathering. The research group focuses on democracy and human rights work across the region. Their press release promised stronger research projects under the new team.

Rahman brings serious media clout to his new role. His television program "Tritiyo Matra" has shaped political conversations for more than twenty years. The show earned him respect as a trusted voice on national issues. He previously ran the organization as Executive Director and led their "Bay of Bengal Conversation" international event. His work on democracy and free speech matches what the group stands for.

The board welcomed six new members from different backgrounds. Munira Khan watches elections and fights for human rights. Ambassador Md. Shafiullah brings diplomatic experience from his government service. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Mazid once headed the National Board of Revenue as Secretary and Chairman. Abdul Haque runs businesses and leads companies. Subir Das studies policy issues for his job. Fahmida Haq writes books and organizes social causes.

The group wants to blend academic research with real-world policy solutions. Their new leadership team plans to expand both local and international research efforts. The changes signal a fresh direction for the democracy-focused organization.
