Zim Cricket mocked for Curran US$300 match award

Zimbabwe Cricket faced criticism after presenting opener Ben Curran with 300 dollars for his player of the match performance against Afghanistan on Tuesday. The organization defended the amount as symbolic recognition separate from regular compensation. Opposition lawyer Fadzayi Mahere said national athletes deserve greater respect for their contributions to sporting success. Critics compared the modest prize to lucrative awards given in other nations.

Sports analyst Chief Koti explained that contracted players receive between 1,500 and 15,000 dollars monthly, with additional match fees exceeding 2,000 dollars. Test cricket awards globally range from 1,000 to 10,000 dollars according to industry data. Social media users questioned whether sponsors agreed to fund such minimal recognition. Supporters suggested that private businesspeople should offer more substantial prizes for outstanding performance.
