Zim Warriors Crumble in Rwanda Qualifier Upset

Zimbabwe lost their first World Cup qualifier match against Rwanda on Sunday. The Young Mighty Warriors fell behind early when Rwanda scored from a free kick header just two minutes after kickoff. Bethel Kondo tied the game for Zimbabwe during the 18th minute of play. Rwanda took control again with another goal, fifty minutes into the match. The home team held strong against all Zimbabwe attacks to win 2-1.

Coach Gartly Chipuka said his team lacked mental readiness for the game. He blamed player nerves for the defeat at Kigali Pele Stadium. Chipuka believes his team can fix their mistakes before Wednesday. The second match happens that day, with Zimbabwe serving as host. Both games take place in Rwanda because Zimbabwe lacks a stadium approved for international matches.

Chipuka plans to adjust his strategy after seeing how Rwanda plays. He views the first-leg result as a learning experience for his squad. The coach remains hopeful about winning the next match. His players need better focus to avoid similar errors. The winner advances to the next round of World Cup qualifying matches.
