Zimbabwe Cops Threaten to Crush Protest Plotters

Zimbabwe police claim they found a plot by opposition groups to start violent protests. They plan to crack down hard on anyone involved in these demonstrations. Police official Paul Nyathi said protesters want to burn tires and destroy buildings across the country. He named opposition leaders Jacob Ngarivhume and Amos Chibaya as people behind these plans. He did not explain how they connected these politicians to the alleged protests.

Ngarivhume leads Transform Zimbabwe, and Chibaya previously served as a Member of Parliament. The police warning comes after former ruling party member Blessed Geza called for people to rise against President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Geza also wanted workers to stay home to pressure the president to step down. Many citizens criticize Mnangagwa for corruption and his apparent attempts to remain in office past his term limit. The constitution says he must leave office in 2028 after serving two terms as president.
