Zimbabwe Delegation Uncovers Belarus Election Secrets

Zimbabwe Election Officials Observe Belarus Presidential Vote.

A team from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is in Belarus observing the country's 2025 presidential election.

ZEC Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba leads the delegation. International groups are monitoring the vote to promote democracy.

Chigumba said she was happy with the ballot security measures. After visiting polling stations, she spoke to the media.

"We saw impressive security features on the ballot boxes," she noted. Each box had a special section for early voting ballots.

The ballots have a watermark for security. The boxes have a signature and wax seal on one side.

"We were quite satisfied with the security features," Chigumba said.

Voters started casting ballots at 8 am Belarus time on Sunday. It is the first presidential election since Alexander Lukashenko's big win in 2020.

Sunday was the main election day. But early voting ran from January 21-25.

Early voting is for people who can't vote on election day. The advance voting ended on January 25.

Polls closed at 8 pm on Sunday. Officials started counting the early votes right away.

The ZEC team is part of a wider international observation mission. They want to ensure a free and fair election in Belarus.
