Zimbabwe has flagged fake overseas jobs tied to war zones

Zimbabwe says fake overseas job deals have landed some recruits on battlefronts. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere says the scammers are getting slicker, despite past alerts from the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting. Big salaries are the main draw.

Recruiters target people seeking work in nearby nations, the Middle East, and Asian destinations. Some victims reportedly had no military training at all before being sent into conflict. Pretty grim for people who thought they had found regular jobs abroad.

Zimbabwean law bans the recruitment of citizens as mercenaries. Authorities have condemned the groups running these scams and want job hunters to check each offer with care. That means looking into the employer, the hiring agent, and the deal itself. Huge pay promises deserve extra scrutiny.

Families have a part to play as well. Parents, guardians, and local leaders are being urged to pay close attention to travel plans. They should know where their loved ones intend to go and what kind of work awaits them.

Anyone trapped in another country through one of these schemes is being urged to alert relatives back home. Zimbabwean consular staff can be contacted for help in the host nation. Officials want people to take those steps if a foreign job deal turns dangerous.
