Zimbabwe horticulture doubles its trade surplus with Netherlands

Zimbabwe achieved a remarkable doubling of its trade surplus with the Netherlands between 2023 and 2024. The African nation increased its positive trade balance from 13 million dollars to 25 million dollars during this period. Horticultural exports drove this significant growth and represent the primary component of bilateral commerce. Fresh produce shipments to Dutch markets constitute approximately 97 percent of total export revenues. Trade statistics reveal Zimbabwe exported goods valued at 50.7 million dollars while importing 25.9 million dollars worth of products.

Government officials target a two billion dollar horticulture industry by 2030 through sustained expansion efforts. Agricultural authorities acknowledge the sector requires annual growth rates of at least 30 percent to achieve these ambitious objectives. Current horticultural exports generate 80 million dollars yearly yet demonstrate potential for substantial increases. The Netherlands serves as a strategic European Union gateway for Zimbabwean agricultural products. Dutch officials emphasize quality standards and consistency as essential factors for continued market access.
