Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Launches Driving School at Chikurubi Training School

Zimbabwe prison officials opened a new driving school at their Chikurubi Training School campus. The facility will teach driving skills to prison staff, inmates and regular citizens. Government leaders gathered for the opening ceremony on Tuesday. Deputy Minister of Justice Norbert Mazungunye called the school an important step forward for the prison system. He said better driver training would help protect both people and vehicles.

The school represents teamwork between different government departments. Deputy Minister of Transport Joshua Sacco attended the event alongside other senior officials. Public Service Commission member Larry Mavima joined prison leaders Moses Chihobvu and Shepherd Mpofu at the ceremony. Mazungunye praised the Transport Ministry for supporting the project. He emphasized that good driving protects public safety and shows proper discipline.

Students can earn three different types of driving permits at the new school. The program teaches both classroom lessons and hands-on driving practice. Class 4 licenses allow people to drive regular cars and small trucks. Class 2 permits cover medium-sized commercial vehicles. Class 1 licenses enable drivers to operate large trucks and buses.

Prison officials believe the school will help their officers become better drivers. Proper training should reduce accidents and vehicle damage over time. The facility also gives inmates useful job skills they can use after release. Community members will benefit from having another place to learn safe driving habits. Government leaders see the school as part of broader prison system improvements.
