Zimbabwe ramps up fertiliser distribution for summer crops

Zimbabwe accelerated fertilizer and seed delivery through the Presidential Input Scheme as the summer planting period approaches. The government's fertilizer industry revival strategy has enabled indigenous producer Reignbold to manufacture compound D fertilizer with daily output reaching 2,000 tonnes. Company representative Titus Maravanyika reported that 30 percent of the scheme's compound D allocation has reached farmers, and demand will be satisfied.

Lands Ministry Permanent Secretary Obert Jiri visited the Harare area factory on Wednesday to evaluate readiness for the growing season. Authorities secured more than 25,000 tonnes of top dressing fertilizer, with additional ammonium nitrate imports planned to strengthen crop yields and food supplies. The two-year-old facility demonstrates production capability that assures adequate domestic compound D availability.

Information Minister Jenfan Muswere explained on Tuesday how the Zimbabwe Industrial Reconstruction and Growth Plan strengthened the fertilizer supply chain. Mutapa Investment Fund invested 5.3 million dollars to restart Dorowa Mine phosphate operations that provide raw materials for basal fertilizers. Manufacturer numbers grew from 14 to 16 firms as depot stocks built ahead of forecast rainfall.
