Zimbabwe moved ahead of Bangladesh after day two of the first Test match in Sylhet. They gained a lead of 82 runs thanks to half-centuries from Brian Bennett and Sean Williams. Their last four wickets added 80 valuable runs to their total. They finished strong by taking a Bangladesh wicket, leaving the hosts still 25 runs behind. Bangladesh did see some success when Mehidy Hasan Miraz took his first home five-wicket haul in over two years.
Mehidy ended with 5 for 52 as teammate Nahid Rana claimed three wickets. Zimbabwe built small partnerships throughout their innings after an opening stand of 69 runs. Bangladesh lost opener Shadman Islam for just four runs when Blessing Muzarabani delivered an excellent ball. Wicketkeeper Nyasha Mayavo missed a catch that would have dismissed Mahmudul Hasan Joy. Nyasha Mayavo made 35 runs from 54 balls with five boundaries. Tall players Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava formed a 36-run partnership for the ninth wicket. Ngarava stayed unbeaten with 28 runs from 44 balls. Mehidy finished the Zimbabwe innings by taking the last two wickets.
