Zimbabwe's tourism sector has become the nation's leading economic contributor, officials announced at a recent Hospitality Summit. Representing Tourism Minister Barbra Rwodzi, Permanent Secretary Dr. Takaruza Munyanyiwa stated the industry faces a historic opportunity following its international recognition. He reported that tourism now leads in GDP growth, surpassing mining and agriculture.
Statistics indicated a 9 percent rise in international arrivals and a 20.9 percent increase in domestic travel for part of the year, generating 922 million dollars in revenue. Minister Rwodzi outlined a strategic plan involving digital transformation and sustainability, adding that tourism fees would be cut by up to fifty percent. Hospitality Association President Emma Kativhu noted the minister's new United Nations role would elevate Zimbabwe's global tourism standing.
