Zimbabwe Triathletes Ready to Compete in South Africa

Pamela Fulton, who coaches Zimbabwe's triathlon team, is confident about her athletes' performance tomorrow at the South Africa Junior and Youth Championships in Benoni. The team includes eighteen talented young triathletes ready to face competitors from across the region. For many years, this annual event has helped Zimbabwean athletes gain valuable experience racing in different environments. Most participants recently completed the Troutbeck event as preparation.

Yesterday morning, Coach Fulton traveled with the team to South Africa. Everyone seems excited and happy about the upcoming races. They immediately started putting their bikes together and making sure everything worked properly. Tomorrow, they have an early 5 a.m. wake-up call to learn the race course.

The Troutbeck competition created strong connections between teammates before their journey, according to Fulton. Last weekend's races inspired both youth and junior participants. After brief training at home, they packed their gear and headed out together. Many first-time travelers joined the group.

Fulton emphasizes that sports create lasting friendships beyond competition. She loves seeing kids enjoy themselves during events. The smiles on their faces matter more than the results. Whether they finish first or last, the experience builds character and forms bonds.

This season features an expanded youth lineup with fresh faces joining Zimbabwe's team. Rachel O'Donoghue hopes to capture her third straight gold medal in the Under-15 girls category. Her previous success at these championships makes her a standout competitor. The junior boy's team features Stanley Chasakara, Callum Smith, and Rohnan Nicholson, all aiming for success.

Recent performances look promising. Smith and Chasakara placed fourth and fifth at the Junior Africa Cup. After that competition, Smith explained how these races helped develop his abilities. He believes each event better prepares him for future international challenges.

Coach Fulton expressed happiness with recent performances and hopes the momentum carries into tomorrow's races. The coaching staff includes assistant Leigh-Anne Young and team manager Laura O'Donoghue. The complete roster spans multiple age categories with diverse talent.

Three girls compete in Under-13 events, three in Under-15, with boys divided among Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17 groups. Alexis Beamish, Olivia Collett, and Hannah Hosack represent the youngest girls. Seven boys make up the Under-15 category. The team structure reflects Zimbabwe's commitment to developing young triathlon talent.
