Zimbabwe ups its cyber game to protect data

Zimbabwe works hard to make the internet safer against hackers. The country wants to protect people's information better as online dangers keep changing.

Leaders met in Mutare on Thursday to discuss internet safety and ask lawmakers to update rules that help fight computer criminals. Dr. Tatenda Mavetera from the ICT Ministry said President Mnangagwa sees digital business as key to growing the economy. She believes safe computer systems help build trust and bring more money to Zimbabwe.

The country needs strong defenses to guard important systems, personal details, and money from bad actors. Everyone must work together to keep digital life safe. Zimbabwe plans to become more high-tech under its Smart Zimbabwe 2030 plan but needs laws that let new ideas grow without creating risks.

Mr. Vusumuzi Moyo runs the group that checks computer laws. He says clear rules, learning new things, working with others, and quick law changes matter when fighting Internet threats. His team wants to teach citizens why keeping information safe matters. People depend on digital tools every day, which makes protecting data very important.

Lawmakers learned about cyber safety at the meeting. They feel ready to help protect Zimbabwe from online dangers. New laws about internet safety, phone companies, and online shopping should make using computers and phones much safer for everyone. These changes aim to create a more secure digital world where people can trust that their online activities stay private.
