Zimbabwe youth group pushes for inclusive climate bill

A Zimbabwean youth group linked to the ruling ZANU PF party has called for changes to a proposed climate bill. The organization, Boys Dzamdhara, stated its support for the Climate Change Management Bill during a recent symposium. Their national chairperson, Hopewell Chako, led the group, with directors Michael Mutosvori and Crosby Chinyadza presenting their position.

They argued the legislation must be more inclusive, affordable for young people, and structured to share benefits with communities protecting the environment. Their key recommendation involves formally including traditional leaders in climate governance, citing their role as custodians of communal land. They also urged the bill to lower fees and direct a portion of carbon credit revenue to community projects and youth entrepreneurship.

The group reaffirmed its backing for the government's empowerment agenda, noting the bill aligns with national development goals. They emphasized a shift from top-down regulation to a model of participatory empowerment, ensuring climate action is seen as a universal duty.
