Zimbabweans mock Gata's national hero status over power cuts

Dr Sydney Gata died at age 79 after a short sickness on Thursday. The government named him a national hero right after his death. Ambassador Raphael Faranisi told everyone that Gata would be buried at Heroes Acre on Wednesday. The family and government will work together to plan the funeral. Gata used to run ZESA Holdings as the top executive.

Citizens across Zimbabwe got angry about the hero announcement. Many people think Gata does not deserve this honor because of power problems during his time at ZESA. The country has suffered from constant electricity cuts for years. People blame Gata for these ongoing power failures. Social media users made jokes about calling him a hero.

Twitter users mocked the decision with sarcastic comments about load shedding. One person called him a hero for keeping people in darkness. Another user said he was famous for switching off power from 4am to 10pm every day. Citizens complained that businesses went broke from buying generators during power cuts. Many questioned whether Heroes Acre should honor someone who failed at their job.

The backlash shows how frustrated people feel about electricity problems in Zimbabwe. Citizens remember years of sitting without power during Gata's leadership at the utility company. The government decision surprised many who expected heroes to help the country instead of causing problems. Social media erupted with criticism and disbelief about the national hero status.
