ZIMRA’s monthly tax clearance sparks business fury

Zimbabwe's tax authority just dropped a brutal new rule on businesses. Starting soon, a valid Tax Clearance Certificate only last one month. To get an automated renewal, companies must have every single tax return filed and every penny owed paid by the 27th of each month. Any slip-up blocks the next month's certificate.

The business community is freaking out online. They say collecting fresh tax papers from every supplier every month is a full-time administrative nightmare. This is not just paperwork. If you pay a supplier whose certificate lapsed, you have to withhold a huge chunk of their payment. That thirty percent hit could wipe out a company's entire profit margin, creating a monthly cash flow crisis.

People are calling the move totally backwards, sabotaging any effort to make business easier here. They argue it punishes compliant companies with insane red tape instead of chasing actual tax evaders. Many doubt the tax agency's own systems can even handle the new monthly load without crashing. The overall feeling is that this treats every business like a criminal on permanent probation, which is the exact opposite of building a functional economy.
