ZINWA smart meters ease water bills for 15000 families in Karoi and Gokwe

Digital water measurement systems have transformed resource management for more than 15,000 households and commercial establishments nationwide. The Zimbabwe National Water Authority partnered with Helcraw Water to deploy these advanced meters across five municipalities. Residents previously faced excessive billing under traditional post-paid systems that charged for unused water and system losses.

Smart meter technology allows customers to purchase water credits and monitor consumption patterns directly. Communities in Karoi, Guruve, Gokwe, Hwange, and Mvuma report significant cost reductions since implementation began. Prepaid systems eliminate billing disputes while ensuring water availability through real-time usage tracking.

The technology prevents charges for pipeline leaks and consumption during customer absences. Harare City Council plans to introduce similar prepaid meters through agreements with Hangzhou Liaison Technology Company and Helcraw Electrical. The build-operate-transfer model will expand digital water management throughout the capital region.
