14 Burundians nabbed in Tanzania over illegal entry

Authorities in Mwanza have detained 14 Burundian nationals after discovering them traveling without proper documentation across Sengerema District. Regional Police Commander DCP Wilbrod Mutafungwa attributed the apprehensions to enhanced surveillance operations and stricter checkpoint protocols throughout the area.

Officers intercepted 13 individuals aboard a Tata passenger vehicle near Busisi Village, though the driver escaped before arrest. Police also took into custody the vehicle's owner, Chiza Francis Lugubi of Dodoma, along with mechanic Mustapher Emily and conductor Pendo Matembere for their alleged roles in the transport scheme. Investigators determined the group crossed into Tanzania through Kagera Region's Kabanga border point.

A separate operation netted an 18-year-old Burundian passenger traveling on a Yutong bus in Nyatukara. Both impounded vehicles remain under police control as authorities continue their investigation into the illegal migration network.
