62 Named in ICT Allegation Over Nuruzzaman Jony Killing in Khilgaon

A father accused 62 people of murdering his son at Bangladesh's war crimes court. Yakub Ali filed charges against former lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury and ex-police chief Asaduzzaman Miah. His son Nuruzzaman Jony led a student political group before his death. Ali brought the case to the International Crimes Tribunal office. He had filed an earlier case at Khilgaon police station last September.

Police arrested Jony on January 19, 2015 outside Dhaka Central Jail. Detective officers grabbed him after he visited his younger brother. They took him to their office and beat him severely. His pregnant wife searched multiple police stations for her missing husband. Officers denied holding Jony despite his family's pleas.

Police killed Jony early on January 20 at a local playground. Neighbors heard him screaming for water and calling his mother. Two women from nearby apartments rushed to the scene. They saw many officers at the shooting location. Police claimed Jony died during a gunfight.

Doctors found 16 bullet holes and many bruises on his body. The autopsy happened at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Family members discovered the extensive wounds during the examination. Medical staff documented all the injuries. The evidence suggested severe torture before his death.
