A wedding convoy bus kills 19 women and kids in a Nigeria river

A wedding procession vehicle plunged into a waterway Saturday evening when the driver halted on a damaged bridge structure in northern Nigeria. Transport union representative Abubakar Muhammed reported that the vehicle rolled backward after stopping, resulting in the deaths of at least 19 female passengers and children. The accident occurred near Fass village within Zamfara state as the convoy transported a bride to her spouse's residence. Officials suspect the operator failed to engage the parking brake mechanism before exiting the vehicle.

The bus carried wedding guests toward Jega located in adjacent Kebbi state when the tragedy struck the celebration. Fass residents verified the casualty numbers following the river incident. Nigerian roadways experience frequent crashes due to poor infrastructure maintenance throughout the country. Federal safety authorities documented 9,570 vehicular accidents during the previous year that claimed 5,421 lives across the nation.
