Abia landowners call for fair compensation

Angry locals blasted Abia officials Wednesday over land grabs for the new airport project. They packed Umunkolo Civic Hall, waving signs that read "Pay proper compensation" and "30% discount not fair after attorneys take 10%." The protesters claim the government hasn't been straight with them about how much land they're taking. They also say officials haven't explained clearly what's happening with payment deals. Many landowners feel cheated during the whole messy process.

Chimaeze Nwabuko from Umulenwa Mbawsi didn't hide his anger about the situation. A female farmer at the protest demanded fair payment, pointing out it's happening during farming season. The state government fired back, insisting they've been open throughout the process. They claim they talked properly with all communities affected. They also say they've already paid fair compensation to everyone who lost land.

Police officers guarding the airport entrance watched the protest carefully. They told the upset locals to put down their signs. The officers suggested taking their complaints directly to government officials instead of causing trouble. The standoff highlights growing tensions between rural communities and development projects across the region.
