Abia powers up, new substation lights the way for growth

Abia State Governor Alex Otti broke ground on a 7.5MVA substation project in Umuahia with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company handling construction under the National Integrated Power Project. The build includes a kilometer of 33kV line, 1.2 kilometers of 11kV line, two 300kVA distribution substations, and 2 kilometers of low-tension wiring. Otti thanked President Bola Tinubu for the power sector reforms that opened things up for state involvement and private investment.

The governor said Abia budgeted for another 7.5MVA substation next year that will bump total capacity in the Ogurube Layout area up to 15MVA. NDPHC Managing Director Jennifer Adighije got represented by Executive Director Bello Babayo Bello at the ceremony, and the company promised to keep pushing access to reliable electricity across the country. The finished substation should help small businesses and industrial development while improving the lives of people living around Umuahia.
