Ablekuma North rerun showdown as Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie defies NPP

A defiant NPP candidate refuses to back down from her fight for a parliamentary seat despite party orders to boycott the election. Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie insists she will contest the re-run at Ablekuma North on Friday and claims divine backing for her victory. The determined politician believes she already won the original election and accuses election officials of dirty tricks. She told reporters that darkness cannot cover light and declared herself the truth bearer. Afriyie promised that God will ensure justice prevails when voters head to the polls again.

The candidate claims she beat her rival by getting 34,613 votes compared to her opponent's 34,199 in the first election. She says results came from 278 polling stations where she led by 349 votes with only three stations left unresolved. The Electoral Commission suddenly changed course and demanded a re-run at 19 polling stations instead of the original three. Afriyie questions what happened overnight to cause the dramatic shift in the commission's position. She maintains that election officials cannot cheat her because she walks with God's protection.

The NPP tried to stop the re-run through the courts but failed when an Accra High Court judge threw out their legal challenge. Justice Ali Baba Abature dismissed the party's application on Wednesday and called it worthless. The ruling clears the way for Friday's re-run despite the party's boycott order. Afriyie breaks ranks with her party leadership and vows to fight for what she believes belongs to her. The candidate remains confident that voters will deliver her victory.
