Ablekuma North to Re-Run 19 Polling Stations on July 11

Ghana's Electoral Commission has decided to hold fresh elections at 19 polling stations out of 37 locations for Ablekuma North Constituency. The area still lacks a Member of Parliament after the December 2024 general elections left the race unfinished. Officials from both major political parties met on Tuesday July 1 to discuss the problem. The commission scheduled the new voting day for Friday July 11 2025. Political leaders from NPP and NDC reached an agreement during their talks.

The National Democratic Congress wanted fresh elections at all 37 polling stations across the constituency. The New Patriotic Party believed officials should count results from just three remaining stations and declare a winner. The Electoral Commission released a statement on July 2 explaining their final decision about the disputed election. The main problem centered around 37 pink sheets that were only scanned copies instead of original documents. Party supporters had caused chaos at the counting center during the December 7 election.

Angry crowds destroyed several important pink sheets related to the parliamentary contest during the December disturbances. The commission explained that 19 scanned polling station results had approval from agents representing both political parties. However the presiding officers responsible for those specific polling stations never verified the scanned documents. This verification issue forced the commission to order fresh voting at those 19 locations. The final winner between NPP candidate Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie and NDC candidate Ewurabena Aubynn will emerge after the July re-run.
