Abuja Council Threatens Bulldozer on Illicit Duplexes

The Abuja city council told workers they had two days to tear down ten houses built where trees should grow. Felix Obuah from the council gave this order on Thursday after he went around checking the wrong buildings all over town. He said the builder kept working even after many warnings to stop. These homes went up without papers or permission near Apo, breaking city rules.

The builder came to show papers, but had none at all for what he did. Obuah promised the public that every building would come down very soon. City leaders will not allow anyone to build where green spaces should be kept safe. The head of building permits, Mukhtar Galadima, said his office never said yes to these houses.

Workers marked these buildings many times, but the builder paid no attention. Some builders only listen when they see machines coming to knock down walls. The council aims to protect how the capital city looks for everyone who lives there. They plan to make sure the city stays as it was drawn on the first maps.
