Police intensify crackdown on illicit alcohol production in Kisii

Authorities in Kisii Central Sub-County have escalated operations against illegal alcohol production after raiding a location in Riangombenene Village. Officers from Kiogoro Police Station recovered 2,000 liters of Kangara, a substance used for distilling Chang'aa, along with 40 liters of the finished product. A female suspect was detained and faces court proceedings.

The National Police Service characterized the intervention as part of continuing efforts to eliminate harmful unregulated beverages across the region. Similar enforcement actions recently occurred in Wajir County, where five people were arrested and eight liters of illicit Kerong'anga were confiscated. A larger multi-agency operation previously dismantled brewing sites in Kericho County, seizing 50,000 liters of Kangara, 100 liters of Chang'aa, and 1,000 liters of molasses.

Residents can report suspicious activities through emergency hotlines or the FichuaKwaDCI platform anonymously.
