Abuja CSO slams FCTA as bulldozers level cancer center in River Park Estate

The Centre for Human Rights and Advocacy in Africa Network condemned Federal Capital Territory Administration officials for destroying Margaret Lawrence University Teaching Hospital's multi-billion-naira cancer facility. FCTA bulldozers demolished the medical center on Saturday within River Park Estate, Abuja, after one year of active construction work. Civil society leaders Henry Abba and Michael Ikwebe described the government's action as barbaric and unacceptable behavior toward healthcare infrastructure. Officials provided no advance warning before arriving at the upscale residential area to tear down the partially completed medical building. The demolition created widespread panic among estate residents who remain uncertain about future government plans for the community.

FCTA teams have destroyed thirty-five additional structures across three recent days under directives from Minister Nyesom Wike's special task force committee. The advocacy organization accused authorities of pursuing land acquisition policies disguised as urban renewal projects throughout the valuable estate property. Group representatives challenged the logic of classifying active construction sites as undeveloped land requiring government reclamation efforts.
