Accra fake cash ring busted over GHC2.3m 192k in dollars

Police caught five people making fake money that adds up to millions of cedis and dollars. The group printed false GH¢200 notes worth GH¢2.3 million and fake $100 bills worth $191,900. Shubham Sharma works as a general manager and got arrested with four others. James Mozu Bonaparte designs graphics and Prince Owusu Ahenkorah takes photos and makes videos. Jonathan Kwame Appiah and Solomon Adjetey Adjei both work as graphic designers.

An Accra court heard the case on Friday and sent all five people to jail until July 3, 2025. The judge did not ask them to say if they were guilty or not. Police want more time to look into what happened. Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu asked the court to keep them locked up. The businessperson who reported the crime lives and works around Accra.

Officers picked up the suspects on June 16, 2025 after getting tips about their activities. Sharma took $230,000 from a businessman's bedroom safe after stealing company money. He put fake cedis and dollars back into the safe to replace what he stole. Police found the false money at the company office located at Adabrakah Industrial Area. Sharma told police he kept the fake notes at his workplace.

Sharma paid Bonaparte GHC25,000 for the false Ghana money and GHC15,000 for the fake American dollars. Bonaparte and Ahenkorah worked together to give Sharma the counterfeit cash. Police found five bundles of fake GH¢200 notes when they searched Ahenkorah. Ahenkorah told officers that Appiah helped him with the crime. Appiah runs a printing business and watched over the making of the false money before Adjei gave the finished notes to Ahenkorah.
