Acting Chief Makumbe Dies in Car Crash at 30

Paul Chengeta died yesterday at age 30. He served as Acting Chief Makumbe of Buhera until his Toyota Revo hit a Gold Class Express bus in Marondera. Freeman Mavhiza from the Buhera District Development Coordinator office told The Mirror about his death. Paul almost finished his Civil Engineering studies at the University of Zimbabwe.

The crash happened when Paul traveled with a friend from Harare toward Mutare. His uncle, Tapiwa Chengeta, says the family hasn't decided when to hold the funeral yet. Paul never married before his death. He became Acting Chief last year after his father, Shepherd Chengeta, the previous Chief Makumbe, died back in March 2023.

Paul's friend walked away from the accident with minor injuries. The family thinks they'll probably bury Paul this Saturday at his childhood home in Buhera. They need to complete some official requirements first before they announce the final funeral plans. Local leaders must give guidance about the burial arrangements for the young acting chief.
