Ada police seize 248 cocoa bags, arrest Solomon and Nicholas Tetteh

Police officers from the Ada District Command stopped two trucks carrying suspected smuggled cocoa beans on September 10, 2025. The patrol team discovered 248 maxi bags hidden inside jute and nylon sacks during their evening operation at Big-Ada. Solomon Tetteh and Nicholas Tetteh, both drivers of the double-axle vehicles, faced immediate arrest along with cargo owner Stephen Okronipa. Officers impounded trucks bearing registration numbers GN 6953-22 and GR 9877-12 after the 17:00 hours operation near Ada Senior High School. Authorities transferred the seized cocoa beans to COCOBOD facilities in Tema for secure storage.

Law enforcement officials warned transportation workers and traders against participating in such illegal operations. The police stated that anyone found helping with smuggling activities would face legal consequences. COCOBOD has battled cocoa bean smuggling for approximately two years, with most illegal shipments heading to Togo. Price differences between Ghana and neighboring countries continue driving this illicit trade across borders.
