Adamawa frees 87 inmates in jail decongestion drive

Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman led the Adamawa State Jail Delivery Committee through four lockups and cut loose 87 people who had been sitting behind bars. The judge's crew hit up facilities in Mayo-Belwa, Jada, Sintali Kojoli Farm Centre, and Ganye to sort through cases involving theft, weapons possession, and other charges.

The committee knocked down sentences for 81 convicted inmates and gave bail to six others who were still waiting for their cases to move forward. Most of the crimes were relatively minor stuff that did not need people rotting away in cells.

Abdulrahman told everyone walking free to stay out of trouble because the courts are not going to be as forgiving next time around if they mess up again.
