Adani mourns Zubeen Garg as Assam weeps

Gautam Adani traveled to Guwahati on Sept. 28 to honor deceased singer Zubeen Garg at his Kahilipara home. The Adani Group chairman met Garg's widow, Garima Saikia Garg, and offered floral tributes to the musician who died on Sept. 19. Adani described the performer as a cultural icon whose artistry resonated throughout northeastern India.

Garg drowned during a scuba diving incident in Singapore while attending the North East India festival. Authorities rescued him from the water, but medical teams could not revive him at a hospital intensive care unit. The multilingual artist achieved national recognition through his 2006 Bollywood song Ya Ali from the film Gangster. His sister, Jongki Borthakur, perished in a vehicle crash in Assam in February 2002.
