Adeleke demands aide’s release, slams Osun police chief

A governor just called out his own state police commissioner for partisan arrests. Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke demanded intervention from the national police chief. He accused Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan of unlawfully detaining one of his aides. The aide was held over a defamation petition linked to an opposition candidate.

Adeleke labeled the continued detention a violation of fundamental human rights. He stated the alleged offense was both non-capital and easily bailable under the law. Bail was reportedly denied twice despite meeting standard police conditions. The governor described this as unacceptable partisan conduct by the command.

He alleged a general decline in police professionalism under the current commissioner. Another aide was previously arrested without a formal invitation. Adeleke warned that police must not serve any single political party's interests. He urged the Inspector General to ensure his aide's immediate release.

Police spokespersons later stated the aide had been admitted to bail. They confirmed investigations were complete and charges would be filed in federal court. The command absolved the commissioner of any blame in handling the matter. Sureties were required at the station to finalize the bail process.
