Adut Kiir convinces Mabior Garang to return to the government

Presidential Envoy for Socio-Economic Development and Investment Promotion Adut Kiir held discussions with newly appointed Environment and Forestry Minister Mabior Garang de Mabior following his swearing-in ceremony at her Juba office. The envoy played an instrumental role in persuading Mabior to rejoin the Cabinet after he resigned from government service in 2020.

Adut Kiir expressed her intention to collaborate with Mabior on environmental initiatives, highlighting shared priorities including climate resilience, sustainable forestry management, and ecosystem conservation efforts. The appointment of Mabior, son of liberation leader John Garang de Mabior, represents a symbolic reconciliation move by President Salva Kiir's administration.

South Sudan continues addressing reconstruction challenges while managing climate-related vulnerabilities, particularly severe flooding and drought conditions affecting the nation.
