Afreximbank loan will let ZETDC cut your power even faster

Afreximbank approved a US$210 million financing package for Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company during the Intra-African Trade Fair 2025. The utility company will allocate US$50 million toward electricity purchases from Mozambique's HCB while dedicating US$5 million to modernize its SCADA monitoring systems. ZETDC plans to manufacture new transformers and cables through local suppliers to replace equipment damaged by vandalism across the network. The financing will support smart meter installations that enable remote disconnection when customer accounts lack sufficient funds. Officials expect to complete the conversion of 60,000 existing prepaid meters to smart technology that improves revenue collection and reduces power theft.
