Agona Nyakrom marks Akwambo Festival with cultural revival focus

Traditional leaders from Agona Nyakrom have started their annual Akwambo Festival with a clear mission. They want to bring back old customs that young people have forgotten. The chiefs worry that foreign ways are taking over their culture. Nana Oteatuoso Osei Bonsu III leads the festival planning committee and serves as the area's traditional leader. He believes the community must act fast to save their heritage.

Young people today follow strange customs from other countries instead of their ancestors' ways. This shift troubles the elders who see their culture fading away. The festival organizers have asked youth to help plan this year's celebration. They hope working together will teach young people about their roots. The chiefs want the government to give them more power to enforce traditional rules.

Money raised during the festival will help improve local healthcare services. The community plans to upgrade their health center into a full polyclinic. Festival activities will feature traditional drumming and dancing from local groups. Organizers have planned cleanup campaigns, races, and school competitions. Sacred rituals will honor their ancestors during the celebration.

Mr. Kwesi Adoko Blanson ran the festival launch ceremony and spoke to the crowd. He urged young people to join all the festival events and learn from their elders. The celebration aims to unite different generations through shared cultural experiences. Community leaders see this festival as their chance to rebuild pride among residents. They believe strong traditions will help their town grow and prosper.
