Agrizzi avoids prison after plea deal in Bosasa scandal

Former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi avoided prison after securing a plea deal with prosecutors, receiving a wholly suspended 10-year sentence for corruption and money laundering. The Palm Ridge court suspended the terms for five years due to his severe health decline following a 2020 stroke that caused lasting mobility and speech impairments.

The agreement requires Agrizzi to provide full, truthful cooperation with ongoing state capture investigations and testify in related trials. Failure to comply would trigger immediate imprisonment. His testimony previously exposed Bosasa's bribery schemes at the Zondo Commission, detailing how the company secured billions in government contracts through kickbacks to officials.

Prosecutors prioritized his cooperation over incarceration, acknowledging his critical role in advancing other corruption cases despite public concerns about accountability. This outcome underscores the challenges courts face in balancing health considerations against demands for justice in high-profile state capture prosecutions. Agrizzi's evidence may now accelerate trials targeting other implicated figures.
