Air India flight from Kochi skids on Mumbai runway, all passengers safe

Air India flight AI 2744 veered off the runway during landing at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Monday morning. The aircraft from Kochi encountered heavy rainfall conditions at 9:27 AM, causing the departure from the designated landing path. Emergency response protocols activated immediately as all 157 passengers and crew members evacuated without injury. The primary runway sustained minor damage, prompting airport authorities to redirect operations to the secondary airstrip. Airport officials confirmed that safety procedures functioned effectively throughout the incident.

The Boeing aircraft remained grounded pending mandatory safety inspections following the weather-related mishap. Mumbai airport management stressed their commitment to passenger safety while maintaining operational continuity through alternate runway usage. Air India representatives attributed the excursion to challenging meteorological conditions during the final approach phase. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu addressed Parliament regarding the ongoing investigation into June's fatal Air India crash near Ahmedabad. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau continues examining that separate incident under international aviation standards.
