Air India Flight Returns to Hong Kong After Technical Issue

Two Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes turned around Monday after takeoff because of technical problems. Air India Flight 315 left Hong Kong for Delhi but came back 90 minutes later when pilots spotted trouble. The captain told air traffic controllers they wanted to return to Hong Kong airport right away. British Airways Flight 35 also returned to London Sunday after similar mechanical issues during its trip to Chennai. Both aircraft landed safely with no one hurt.

The Air India plane circled back to Hong Kong International Airport around 9:30 in the morning. Safety crews checked the entire aircraft after all passengers left the plane without problems. Air India workers helped travelers make new flight plans to reach Delhi as quickly as possible. The airline said they wanted to reduce delays caused by the unexpected equipment failure. Technical experts examined both planes to find what caused the malfunctions.

These incidents happened just days after an Air India Dreamliner crashed near Ahmedabad airport. That accident killed 279 people when the plane hit a medical college campus right after takeoff. Aviation officials ordered safety inspections of all Boeing 787 jets with similar engines. The crash prompted new rules for checking fuel systems and engine controls on Dreamliner aircraft. Air India operates 33 Boeing 787 planes across its route network.
