Airport Worker Accused of Stealing Jet Fuel in Zimbabwe.
The police said a worker at Zimbabwe's main airport, Jacob Mutemeri, stole fuel from a plane that needed repairs.
The man worked for Air Zimbabwe at Robert Mugabe Airport in Harare. Police caught him after he took fuel many times in November. He went to court and paid $150 to stay free until his next hearing in January.
The story began when a Boeing plane named "Mbuya Nehanda" landed in Botswana with problems. The plane leaked, and workers parked it for repairs. It held 6.3 tons of fuel.
Mutemeri saw a chance to steal. He came at night in a silver truck. He drained fuel into containers when no one watched. He did this for a week, driving past Gate A3 each time.
One night, he came very early - at 3:30 a.m.- and left an hour later with more fuel. This continued until November 22.
The theft came out when workers fixed the plane's leak. They found much less fuel than they should have. They told the police, who arrested Mutemeri.
The court will hear more about the case next month. For today, Mutemeri walks free on bail.
